MERCHANT CENTER FIX GUIDES

Fix “Duplicate identifier” in Google Merchant Center

Typical Merchant Center message: Duplicate identifier

Reviewed October 14, 2026 against Google’s published rules.

Google reports a duplicate identifier when your product data has several products with the same identifiers, such as GTIN, MPN or brand. Either the same product is listed twice, or one identity is used for different products.

The two situations Google describes

  1. The same product appears more than once in your product data.
  2. One identity is used for different products, for example a copied variant that kept the original barcode.

How to fix it

  1. Open Products, then Needs attention, and filter for this issue.
  2. Remove the duplicate product, or give each product the correct identifiers and differentiate them.
  3. Confirm that every offer ends up with a unique set of identifiers in your product data.
  4. To fix many products at once, download the .csv list of affected products from the Needs attention tab, correct your product data and re-upload it.

Check your own catalog for these issues

FeedGuard flags item IDs that repeat or collide in your file and lets you review them row by row. Compare barcodes with your supplier data yourself, since only you know whether two products are really the same.
