MERCHANT CENTER FIX GUIDES

Fix “Invalid MPN” and “Incorrect MPN” in Google Merchant Center

Typical Merchant Center message: Invalid MPN · Incorrect MPN

Reviewed October 14, 2026 against Google’s published rules.

The MPN is the part number assigned by the manufacturer. Google says the mpn attribute is required only when a product has no manufacturer-assigned GTIN, and optional otherwise. An invalid or incorrect value can lead to a warning or disapproval.

Rules from Google’s articles

  1. Send only an MPN the manufacturer assigned, not one a reseller or distributor created.
  2. If the product has no MPN, leave the field blank. Do not guess or make up a value.
  3. Use the most specific MPN available. Different colors usually have different MPNs.
  4. Apparel is the exception: sizes often share one MPN, so use the size attribute for size instead.
  5. Check that the brand is correct as well.

How to fix it

  1. Open Products, then Needs attention, and filter for the issue.
  2. Correct or clear the mpn value for each product, using Edit product or your own product data.
  3. To fix many products at once, download the .csv list of affected products from the Needs attention tab, correct your product data and re-upload it.
  4. Google says it can take 24–72 hours for a fix to leave the Needs attention list.

Check your own catalog for these issues

FeedGuard shows which products have no GTIN, MPN or identifier information so you can decide where a real identifier exists. It cannot know whether an MPN is the manufacturer’s own.
