Fix “Invalid value [gtin]” in Google Merchant Center
Typical Merchant Center message: Invalid value [gtin]

Google reports an invalid GTIN when the value you entered is not a valid Global Trade Item Number. Products that have an assigned GTIN but are sent without a valid one can have limited visibility.
What Google accepts
A GTIN is a number with 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits (UPC, EAN, JAN or ISBN). Spaces and dashes are accepted but ignored. It should uniquely identify the product.
The last digit is a check digit calculated from the others, so a number with a typo usually fails the check.
How to fix it
- Open Products, then Needs attention, and filter for this issue.
- Compare each GTIN with the barcode printed on the product or its packaging, or with your supplier’s data.
- Enter the correct number. In Shopify it goes in the variant’s Barcode field. If the product has no manufacturer barcode, do not make one up; leave the field empty.
- Check for spreadsheet damage: leading zeros cut off, or long numbers turned into scientific notation such as 8.9E+11.
- To fix many products at once, download the .csv list of affected products from the Needs attention tab, correct your product data and re-upload it.
- Google says it can take 24–72 hours for a fix to leave the Needs attention list.
