MERCHANT CENTER FIX GUIDES

Fix “Image too big” in Google Merchant Center

Typical Merchant Center message: Image too big

Reviewed October 14, 2026 against Google’s published rules.

Google reports “Image too big” when a product image does not meet its size requirements. The product is disapproved until the image is fixed.

Limits in Google’s article

  1. Images must be less than 64 megapixels and smaller than 16 MB.
  2. Minimums still apply: 250 × 250 pixels for apparel and 100 × 100 for everything else.
  3. The product should take up no less than 75% and no more than 90% of the image.

How to fix it

  1. Open Products, then Needs attention, and filter for this issue.
  2. Resize or compress each affected image so it meets the limits, then save it under a new file name.
  3. Update the image link in Edit product or in your product data.
  4. Google says a new image can take up to 6 weeks to appear if the URL stays the same, and usually within 72 hours if the file name and URL change. Change the URL.
  5. To fix many products at once, download the .csv list of affected products from the Needs attention tab, correct the image links in your product data and re-upload it.
