MERCHANT CENTER FIX GUIDES

Fix “Mobile page not crawlable due to robots.txt” in Google Merchant Center

Typical Merchant Center message: Mobile page not crawlable due to robots.txt

Reviewed October 14, 2026 against Google’s published rules.

Google reports this when a product link points to a landing page that robots.txt stops Google’s crawler from downloading when it uses a mobile user-agent. Google then cannot run its automated quality and policy checks on the page, and affected products stop showing in Shopping ads and free listings on desktop and mobile until the page can be crawled.

How to fix it

  1. Update the robots.txt file in your web server’s root directory so Googlebot and Googlebot-Image can crawl the site. Google’s entries are “User-agent: Googlebot” followed by “Disallow:”, and “User-agent: Googlebot-image” followed by “Disallow:”.
  2. In Shopify, robots.txt is generated from a robots.txt.liquid template. If you or an app customized it, look for rules that block Googlebot or Googlebot-Image.
  3. Test the setup with the URL Inspection tool, choosing Smartphone as the fetch type.
  4. Upload a new data source or update the items through the Merchant API.
  5. Google says the errors should disappear within a couple of days after the fix and the item update.

Check your own catalog for these issues

FeedGuard’s live check shows product pages that do not open, but it does not read robots.txt. Check that file with the URL Inspection tool.
