MERCHANT CENTER FIX GUIDES

Fix “Unable to check product pages” in Google Merchant Center

Typical Merchant Center message: Unable to check product pages

Reviewed October 14, 2026 against Google’s published rules.

Google reports this when some products have a landing page in their link attribute that Google cannot crawl. Affected products stay disapproved and stop showing in Shopping ads and free listings until Google can crawl the page.

Two causes

  1. Your robots.txt file blocks Google’s crawler from the page.
  2. The page returns an HTTP error when Google crawls it.

How to fix it

  1. Update the robots.txt file in the root of your web server so Googlebot and Googlebot-Image can crawl your full site. Google’s example uses an empty Disallow rule for each user-agent. In Shopify, robots.txt is generated from a robots.txt.liquid template. If you or an app customized it, look for rules that block Googlebot or Googlebot-Image.
  2. Optionally test the setup with the URL Inspection tool.
  3. Open Products, then Needs attention, and filter for this issue. Check that the links lead to pages that open.
  4. To fix many products at once, download the .csv list of affected products from the Needs attention tab, correct your product data and re-upload it.
  5. Google says that after a new feed upload or Merchant API update, the errors should disappear within a couple of days.

Check your own catalog for these issues

FeedGuard’s live check opens your product pages like a visitor and shows pages that do not load. It does not read your robots.txt, so check that file yourself.
