MERCHANT CENTER FIX GUIDES

Fix “Online store URL not verified” in Google Merchant Center

Typical Merchant Center message: Online store URL not verified

Reviewed October 14, 2026 against Google’s published rules.

Google reports this when your online store URL has not been verified and claimed in Merchant Center. A URL can be claimed by only one account.

Causes Google lists

  1. The URL was never verified. Verification is part of onboarding, and a URL can be claimed only after it.
  2. Another Merchant Center account has claimed a higher-level domain. For example, shop.example.com cannot be claimed if example.com is already claimed elsewhere.
  3. Website tags were changed or placed in the wrong spot. An HTML meta tag belongs in the head section of the homepage, before the body.
  4. The Search Console owner does not match a user in Merchant Center, or the person verifying lacks the needed access.
  5. Your ecommerce platform requires a different verification method.
  6. The confirmation email was filtered out, or the code was not entered correctly.

How to fix it

  1. If a higher-level claim is the problem, go to Settings, then Business info, then Edit online store. Remove “www” or “https” from the URL and save.
  2. If that does not work, remove all verification methods and add them again. Google lists 5 verification methods.
  3. If another account holds the URL, try claiming a higher-level domain, check Search Console for other authorized users, and delete any duplicate account that causes the conflict.
  4. If you use Shopify: the email used for the Google & YouTube app needs admin or super admin access to both your Shopify and Merchant Center accounts. Check that the right Merchant Center ID is set in the app. If Shopify created an older claimed account, reclaim the domain in your main account. Reinstalling the app can sometimes resolve syncing problems.
  5. If the confirmation email does not arrive, check all folders including spam, and resend the code after 3 minutes. Copy and paste the code, since the email link does not fill it in.
